Howard’s experience spans investment banking, corporate finance and general management. Since 2010 he has focussed exclusively on startups, serving as investor, adviser or director across a number of successful businesses – Siteminder, Oneflare, Deputy, Booodl, Beat the Q, Rezdy, Shippit, ConTgo and others. He previously served for five years as head of corporate development for NASDAQ-listed HeartWare International. He began his career as an engineer with General Electric Corporation before joining Emerging Growth Capital, advising mid-market technology companies on corporate and capital markets transactions.
Les is an experienced lawyer, M&A adviser and startup investor. He spent almost 30 years as a specialist consultant with Horwath and Deloitte, advising family office and corporate clients across a wide range of transactions. Les is a recognised specialist in taxation law and has authored over a dozen books on the subject. He has been an active angel investor since 1999. He left Deloitte in 2009 to focus full time on his startup investing. He is a director and active adviser to a number of startups, including Siteminder, Rezdy, Oneflare, Alternative Media, UrbanYou and Spoonfeedme.
Daniel started his career as a commercial lawyer specialising in transactional matters and startups. He is experienced in advising on capital raising, acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, corporate reconstructions, financing transactions, corporate governance, disputes arising under the Corporations Act and related taxation matters. Daniel joined EVP in 2016 as General Counsel, completing the firm’s advisory structure to include legal services. He continues to provide legal services to EVP clients through his relationship with Sydney law firms (EVP does not provide legal services) as well as providing a different perspective to EVP’s advisory division. He understands the legal challenges faced by startups and the inherent conflict between commercial outcomes and regulation and is experienced at navigating this landscape to drive results focused outcomes.
Justin has a background in finance having spent time in investment banking, wealth management and transaction advisory services with Credit Suisse, Investec and Ernst and Young respectively. Justin joined EVP in early 2016, bringing a strong technical investment and advisory skillset to support the firm’s advisory and early stage investment activities.
Matthew heads EVP’s consulting CFO practice. Matthew is a finance professional with extensive experience in fundraising, reporting, modelling, and systems implementation for growth-stage and mid-size companies. Before joining EVP, Matthew spent three years as a consulting CFO for a number of VC-funded growth companies in New York, taking overall responsibility for their finance functions and supporting meaningful capital raising activities. Matthew has a deep understanding of business operations, structures, and reporting gained from more than fifteen years in public accounting, both as a Chartered Accountant in Australia and a CPA in the United States.
